Upward Construction is a Georgie Finalist!

Georgie Award Finalist

We are pleased and excited to announce that we were selected as a finalist for the prestigious Georgie Award in two categories: kitchen and whole house renovation.

I'm sure most of you will have heard of the Georgie Award but here is a little history. In 1992 a group of industry professionals decided to start a housing award program to provide value and recognition to the residential construction industry of British Columbia. They name the award after none other than the famed Captain George Vancouver, the first European to sail up the Burrard Inlet in 1792. (Just for interest sake Burrard Inlet was named after his friend Sir Harry Burrard who came just two months after Captain George).

Over the years the Georgie has evolved making it open to all CHBA BC members with changing criteria and categories to keep pace with the ever changing housing market. It is to the building industry what the Oscars are to Hollywood.

Our Project: Headland Drive, West Vancouver

It is always a challenge to renovate a whole house. You are essentially fitting "new" into "old". With our talented team we produced a beautiful home that has made both our clients and ourselves extremely happy.

This project took nine months to complete. Some walls were moved, electrical was replaced to code, and plumbing was changed and updated. Some interesting features include built in iPod stations, instant hot water, heated towel racks and heated flooring. The kitchen was updated with custom cabinetry, beautiful granite stone countertops, new stainless steel appliances and hardwood floors throughout.

The bathrooms are luxurious! First the feet hit heated tiles that were carefully chosen and installed, and then the eye catches the soft neutral colours that envelope the room. The cabinetry is consistent with the rest of the house making for a nice "flow". A satin finish was picked rather than chrome for a cleaner look.

The built in cabinetry has been matched with the rest of the house making for a consistent "flow". Chosen for its space saving quality, it enables the homeowner to store media paraphernalia, china and other such things.

Outside work included a new rubber roof, new masonry, driveway expansion, and fence with a new ground patio out back.

Footnote: In both our categories 186 applicants' submitted material and only 5 were chosen in every category. It's a great honour to be a finalist.
