When the new owners moved into this house, they had a major make-over in mind. They wanted to get rid of the jaded décor and outdated layout and add some European design flair. They also wanted to spruce up the exterior with a more contemporary look.

With creative as well as technical expertise, Upward Construction helped them to completely re-define the space and create a chic but family-friendly home.

While the interior of the house was gutted, the exterior got a face-lift. Old balconies were removed, the front door was repositioned and the rickety stairs were replaced with concreted steps.

Larger windows have been added and the addition of a 12ft collapsible, sliding door in the kitchen makes it easy to bring the outdoors in and vice versa.

Our architect created a new layout on both floors and we added some additional square footage in the basement by cutting out the side of an adjacent hill to build a nanny suite.

The house was completely re-wired and re-plumbed. The existing wiring was a hazard and the state-of-the-art wiring that has been installed will easily meet the demands of a modern, networked house for years to come.

An upgraded plumbing system to cope with five bathrooms and a high efficiency forced-air heating system were also installed.

The hand-crafted cabinets set the tone for this timeless en suite bathroom. With our knowledge of suppliers we were able to help the home owner source the distinctive bathroom accessories that are hard to find in big-name box stores.

We chose the collapsible doors to provide easy access out onto the deck. Hidden from view but highly effective is the state-of-the-art counter-top vacuum extractor fan which suits the lines of this streamlined kitchen perfectly. We called in a kitchen specialist to craft the central island/breakfast bar and the surrounding cabinets.
