This first step allows us to not only get acquainted, but understand your needs, wants, desires and quality expectations.
We’ll walk you through our award-winning custom-built residential projects to get an idea of the type of finishings that might be selected and to show first-hand the type of quality work the Upward team delivers. A review of the site and potential thoughts on code issues, land use, or allowable permit work would also be shared during this initial meeting. We’ll touch on some high-level budget expectations as well as our collaborative process to achieve your vision
Working with an Architect and/or Designer we plan out your vision for your new home, specially made for you. Once the visual perspective is determined and permits are filed, the structural engineers are brought in as required. Now that the team is aligned, constraints are understood, and you’re starting to make some decisions, we are able to put together the target estimate for a more accurate budget. We guide you through this step-by-step before proceeding so that we can achieve success and your desired outcome.
Now the fun part! We work with you to select how the interior space will reflect your vision as they design the look of their interior space. As fixtures and finishings are chosen, the construction estimate is updated with the final selections. But don’t worry, we give complete visibility into how fixtures, finishings and design decisions impact the budget. We want to make this as enjoyable of a process as possible.
Now that all important decisions have been made, the construction phase begins and the schedule for the project is set. While subcontractors and the Upward team perform the work, the Project Manager works with the Site Manager to ensure the project stays on-time and on-budget. You’ll have weekly scheduled meetings with the Project Manager so that you are always up to date and informed. You can also utilize the Tracking Budget for a transparent view into the day to day running of the project. Our standard for the highest quality means everything to us, so rest assured that you are in the best hands and we can handle anything that may come our way.
In our quest to find a solid, reputable and experienced builder for our new home, Upward Construction stood above the rest. They have a great team and were able to tailor their workflow to accommodate our flexible design requirements.
Once we broke ground, a dedicated site supervisor took the reins and oversaw the project from start to finish. He was backed up by very capable offsite support, that also proved to be helpful to us as we waded through the inevitable design and building decisions that crop up along the way.
Led by Michael Upward, everyone on the project was friendly, knew their craft, and gave us confidence that we had selected the right team. Beyond his own employees, Michael is very conscientious to ensure that sub-trades also live up to his expectation of professionalism and client relations.

Michael and his team were contracted to construct a duplex development project for us. From start to finish I was impressed with the experience, integrity and professionalism of the entire Upward team. They delivered on time and on budget. Communication was clear, consise, consistent and open. Any hicups along the way were dealt with quickly and solutions were always well thought out.
Onsite supervision was managed by Geoff, a fully licenced and experienced carpenter who not only managed the project and sub trades full time but also did double duty as a working manager 100% of the time with meticulous attention to detail.

I guarantee you won't be disappointed.When we initially met in the summer of 2011 and you had provided us a quote on our project (pre-plans drafted), there was a notable variance in price with your budget versus the builder we ended up selecting; however, as the project commenced we quickly learned that his projections were grossly underestimated in order to win our business. Ultimately, the entire cost of the project is significantly higher than anticipated, thus your budget was very much in line with the “true” costs. If we had known this from the start, in a heartbeat we would have selected your company as we would have been 100% confident in the quality of construction and enjoyed the outstanding customer service we would have received.

We had a building lot and a vision – where to go from there?
Having engaged Upward Construction several years ago to help us with a major 8 month renovation of our previous home, we knew they would be up to the task of assisting us with the construction of our new home.
The team was actively engaged with us through every step, from the initial design meetings, preliminary discussions with the District of West Vancouver through decommissioning and demolition of the old home to site preparation and ultimately the actual build itself. Our interests were aligned throughout the process and, as such, we reached our goal efficiently.
Anyone who has built a home knows there are thousands of decisions to be made and that there will be issues and surprises throughout. In our case, we were able to minimize the surprises with planning and by dealing with any issues that arose by meeting them head-on and immediately.
We were fortunate to be building 5 doors from our home at the time and, therefore, able to meet on site at the beginning or end of the day, if necessary. Jason, our site superintendent, maintained excellent and regular communication with us throughout the build. If there was any detail that required further input or Jason thought there was something that may not suit us, he was in touch and we met. I know we had many 5 minute meetings that saved hours of potential changes in the long run.
To build a great home you need to start with a great foundation and to us that foundation starts with a great team.
