At home with nature in the heart of West Vancouver
Teamwork makes the dream (home) work. This project was a collaborative effort working closely with highly engaged clients, designers and construction team. These empty-nester owners wanted to build their dream home where they could entertain family, host the grandkids and enjoy the outdoors year-round. Due to the quick turn around on the purchase of the land, they needed a contractor who could hit the ground running with their design team.
The property, as is common in West Vancouver, sits over an underground water source so careful consideration of the foundation of the home would be essential. The homeowners anticipated being very hands-on during the build, they had built a home before and they knew it was important to be involved. Collaboration, communication, and the ability to problem solve effectively without a substantial increase to the budget was a top priority for them (as well as ourselves), so it was a perfect fit.
We captured the best of indoor-outdoor living in Ambleside, West Vancouver. This house is beautiful in all its high-quality finishing details. We love to draw attention to the magnificent 40' sliding door that disappears into a pocket to completely open up the living space into a large, canopied patio and pool. The tracks are intentionally embedded in the polished concrete floor for a smooth transition. Having a concrete floor required additional engineering consideration to ensure that it was structurally sound. Water management was done with a full basement design including a pump system and alarm for any potential water issues. The clients selected the cladding for the exterior as well as the exterior fence for the backyard. The Upward team had a great relationship with the client helping them realize their vision through collaboration and strong communication every step of the way.
In our quest to find a solid, reputable and experienced builder for our new home, Upward Construction stood above the rest. They have a great team and were able to tailor their workflow to accommodate our flexible design requirements.
Once we broke ground, a dedicated site supervisor took the reins and oversaw the project from start to finish. He was backed up by very capable offsite support, that also proved to be helpful to us as we waded through the inevitable design and building decisions that crop up along the way.
Now that we are living in our home, an important consideration for us is the fact that Upward Construction stands behind their product. Any issues are resolved with courtesy and in a timely manner. We are very happy with the result and would not hesitate to recommend the company to future home builders.
