Building a high-quality laneway home
Our North Shore client wanted to build a new family home with an added laneway house for their multigenerational family. This custom home would combine the main house built for the daughter and her young family and a laneway home for the family's matriarch to downsize into, allowing the retiree to be close to the family. The family wanted the houses to meet the quality of work they were accustomed to and looked forward to two generations sharing the property yet have privacy when needed.
This award winning laneway home reflects the neighbourhood's character with steep gable roofs and craftsman stylings, with a bright yellow door welcoming you into the 1000 sq foot custom home. The copper awning adds a gorgeous heritage flair, as do the shingles and divided windows. A large bi-parting sliding door opens the great room to the patio, creating a comfortable and spacious traffic flow from inside to outside. Nestled under the stairs are a laundry closet, a book closet, crawl space access and the home mechanical system. With laneway homes, creative and innovative space is essential, as is a sense of architectural detail. The vaulted roof of the great room gives a sense of height – a rarity for laneway homes! Using modular forming systems to save time and material costs for the foundation, combined with high craftsmanship throughout the build kept the project on budget with a high level of detail.
